Back in 2025, Gary Ring visited Gorey Whiskey Club with wit, charm and a bunch of great whiskeys. From a festive evening in Gorey, the seeds of a distillery visit were sown and we finally got to visit Drogheda on a Saturday in April.

We hopped on a private bus in Gorey and chatted all things whiskey on our journey up the M11. At the distillery, we were greeted by Gary and we got into an immediate cask pull sample. Gary walked us through the distillery over the course of the tour and his encyclopedic knowledge of his craft was clear.

After a technical tour, we sat down for lunch and enjoyed our lunch with three Boann expressions.

The highlight of the tour was the next part - a walk through the warehouse sampling cask pulls. This was incredible with some excellent expressions shared and enjoyed by the crew. Gary walked us through each expression, teaching us and entertaining us in equal measure.

It was a rare privilege to be able to taste those samples among the casks and stills of a working distillery.

We wrapped up our visit with a chat with the distillery owner, Pat Cooney, who was generous with his time and very much appreciated by the crew. Finally, we gave Gary a gift as a token of our appreciation and we visited the gift shop to pick up some reminders of our incredible day out.
