The Irish Whiskey Awards (IWA) are a highly-respected set of annual awards for Irish whiskeys that is curated and run by the Celtic Whiskey Store. The tastings are fully blind - judges are not made aware of either the samples or the category from which they're sampling, meaning that it's a very fair system.

We were delighted to be asked by the organisers to participate as judges this year, and we were able to extend this privilege to our members. We were given 42 whiskeys across three different categories and had a great time tasting, discussing and marking those whiskeys in early September in Browne's.

We won't know the results until November - but we do know that it was enormous fun and we'd love to be involved again next year!

The Irish Whiskey Awards always highlight how much craftsmanship goes into Ireland’s distilling scene. It’s one of those events where you can actually feel the pride behind every bottle, whether it’s a small batch release or a big-name label. If you want a clearer look at the stories, people and traditions behind these moments, you’ll find plenty of good reads on the irish insider.
